Great Weekend for Nebraska Runners
This past weekend marks one of the most exciting for Nebraska running.
The headline of the week comes out of Seward, with the Concordia Bulldog men finishing 2nd at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships in Portland, OR. The Bulldog men garnered 2 All-Americans in Dana Schmidt and Zach Meineke. Doane College’s men finished 28th. The Concordia women finished 20th. Full results can be found here. Nebraska Wesleyan’s Men and Women ran their respective Division III meet, the NWU Men finished 27th while the Women finished 12th. Jackie Spelts of NWU 9th overall, garnering All-American honors.
The Living History Farms race proved to be an amazing race for Nebraska runners and teams. Matt Pohren of Omaha finished 4th overall (in a race of almost 7000 runners) in the grueling cross country race. Shannon Stenger finishing 12th and Matt Schneider 13th to round out the Team Nebraska Brooks Mens team. The TNB Men also finished first out of 106 teams.
On the women’s side of things, Courtney Mann of Omaha was the first Nebraska native female to cross the line in 7th, followed Christy Nielsen also of Omaha, who was the 8th female. The Team Nebraska Brooks Open Female team finished second in the Open Female division. The team consisted of Courtney Mann, Linda Barnhart, and Nicole Nelson.
In the Coed Division, Team Ndorfnz finished 3rd out of 98 teams. The Ndorfnz team consisted of Will Stacy, Christy Nielsen, John Miller, and Peg Pearson.

In Philadelphia, Omaha’s Chris Stiffler posted one of the fastest marathons by a Nebraska runner in 2009. Chris posted a 2:34:50, which is one of the fastest marathon times posted by a Nebraska runner in 2009.
Down in Tulsa Tom Nichols of Lincoln ran the Tulsa Half Marathon in a time of 1:12:08, coming off of injury.
Lastly the ORC had their annual meeting and inducted 3 individuals into the Omaha Running Club Hall of Fame for their contributions to the running community: Bea Sides, Cliff Carthauser, and Lou Soukup.
