Leprechaun Chase 10k brings unique format to traditional running races
Lincoln, Neb. (Feb. 8th, 2010)-On Saturday March 13, 2010 the inaugural Leprechaun Chase 10k adds a twist to the traditional 10k running race by starting the women 5 ½ minutes ahead of the men. The ladies will start in the first wave several minutes before the men begin. The top male runner will have to pass the entire field of female runners in order to cross the finish line first. Like other races, the first competitor to cross the finish line will be crowned champion. The event organizers hope to create a close finish between the top male and female runners in the field.
This fun and competitive St. Patty’s Day themed road race is anticipating runners to come from throughout the Midwest to participate. The Leprechaun Chase 10k will be capped at 400 participants this year, but event organizers hope to increase the number of available spots in following years. Registration for the inaugural race began on Wednesday February 3rd and a steady number of runners have already registered. Katie Taddeucci of Lincoln is participating in the race and said, “How could I pass up a chance to run in beautiful Wilderness Ridge with a bunch of my friends? The fact that we will be pushing even harder to the finish line to not let a guy beat us will make it even more challenging and way more fun!”
After the event is finished, participants are invited into the Lodge at Wilderness Ridge to enjoy the festivities of the green beer after-party. The after party will feature music, drinks, and event awards. Awards will be handed out to overall winners, age group winners, and best dressed themed runners. As an added bonus, the first place runner will win a free drink for their entire gender at the green beer after party.
The event is organized by Off The Clock Events, the organization group of the Market To Market Relay. The Market-To-Market Relay is annual running relay from Omaha to Lincoln that attracts runners throughout the Midwest and the United States. Race Director, Ben Cohoon hopes that the Leprechaun Chase 10k will offer the same level of fun and diverse range of participants as the Market-To-Market Relay does saying, “the unique chase format of the Leprechaun Chase 10k adds a new and exciting element to the popular 10k distance. The format also adds a new challenge both as an elite runner and a beginner.”
